Ashley's Bigg Boss is a group on Tengaged that follows the format[1] of the reality television programme Bigg Boss, the indian version of the originally dutch Big Brother series produced by John De Mol in 1997.[2] The first season was originally due to begin on August 6, 2014, with thirteen housemates entering the house on launch night. However, the season was later put forward to August 4, 2014.

History[edit | edit source]

The season throughout was hosted by Tengaged personality Ashley Rivera, and was broadcast on Tengaged. The show was heavily promoted prior to the launch, with applications beginning on July 26, 2014.[3]

Production and development[edit | edit source]

The first season premiered on August 4, 2014, and will last 16 days, an overall count of nine "virtual" weeks. The season is prime to numerous twists which have the ability to happen at any time during the game, corresponding to the motto in hand, Expect the Unexpected.[4] An outline of the series was put forward during July 2014, prior to casting and the later premiere of the series.

The season finale is due to take place in the show's ninth week, on August 22, 2014.

Casting[edit | edit source]

The series was announced on July 25, 2014.[5] Casting for the first season took place the next day. Twenty-seven applied, all of which passed on to the second round of casting on August 1. The cast reveal took place on August 3.[6]

Originally, there were fourteen housemates due to appear. However, before the cast reveal, Emily (Embug) broke the rules of Tengaged and was thus banned from the site. Only minor changes were made following this, and the season was cut short of two evictions.

Schedule[edit | edit source]

Each day counts as an episode, and is due to air each day consisting of live reveals at 5/4c in America, and 11:00 in British time. Nominations are usually due in for 4/3c, however the rules can be bended depending on appropriate reasons.

Changes have been made to the schedule to fit with the lives of the players, to secure fairness and activity. The launch took place at 6/5c, the originally intended air time for the season, though was moved backwards to accomodate more notice for those who generally come online later at night.

Format[edit | edit source]

The game works on a three-day rota. All housemates each vote for one of their fellow housemates to be crowned "House Captain", with the housemate with the most votes receiving captaincy for the week. All housemates excluding the House Captain then nominate two housemates of their choice for eviction, the two or more housemates with the most nominations facing the public vote. After the nomination results are revealed, the House Captain selects another housemate, excluding the nominated housemates, to face the public vote along with the already nominated housemates.

Three or more housemates would face the public vote to save, depending on if there was a tie during the nominations, or if it was a "double eviction" week, where two housemates were evicted instead of one. The housemate with the least amount of votes is evicted, and the cycle continues. If there is a tie for eviction, then a revote between the tied players would be appropriate. In the end only three housemates will remain, and the public will vote for their winner.

The House Captain nominations happen weekly except for the final week. When four housemates remain, three of them would face eviction, and one would win immunity via a task. It is compulsory for housemates to nominate, and not nominating three times throughout the series would result in expulsion.[3]

Eviction results weren't revealed during the course of the game in order to prevent them from affecting the tune of the game. Instead, all results were revealed including nomination history were revealed at the end of the series.

Strikes[edit | edit source]

"Strikes" were used as a form of punishing the housemates. These can be handed out for unnecessary behaviour, but more commonly for failing to vote during the season. Housemates are offered three strikes before they are ejected (expelled).

  • Strike 1: Banned from participating in the following nominations
  • Strike 2: Automatically nominated for the following eviction
  • Strike 3: Ejection

Captaincy[edit | edit source]

Captaincy plays a major role in the game of Bigg Boss. Each week, all housemates would vote for a new House Captain, who would receive perks, like immunity from eviction, but responsibilities, like nominating another housemate for eviction. The House Captain is usually at the center of twists, which may change the course of the game and force them to make bigger decisions.

     – This person was the current House Captain and was thus unable to be cast a vote.
     – This person was one of the current nominees and was thus unable to be cast a vote.
     – This person was not permitted to cast a vote.

On Day 1, the thirteen housemates entered the Big Brother house, and Melissa became House Captain as decided via public vote. In the same public vote, JB was awarded Immunity, and JoJo was given the "Power of Responsibility", a decision that would affect the entire game. JoJo was given three options, one being a mystery option. By choosing the third option, nominations were cancelled, and she was permitted to automatically nominate three people to face the public vote. She chose Cole, Cory and Nels. On Day 2, Nels was evicted from the house.

After the eviction on Day 2, it was revealed that JoJo received the most votes to become House Captain for the week. On Day 3, it was revealed that Bobby, Melissa and Riley C. received the most nominations to face eviction. The three faced eviction alongside JoJo's nomination, Cole. On Day 4, it was revealed that Cole received the least votes to save, and was evicted from the house.

After the second eviction of the season, Cysco became the new House Captain. As a consequence to the "Double Week" twist, Cysco nominated both JB and Riley B. for eviction, and the four housemates who received the most housemate nominations, Bobby, Brandon, JoJo, Riley C. and Steven, faced eviction alongside them. However, Early the next day, Bobby, JB, JoJo and Riley C. were saved from the pending eviction, receiving the most public votes to save. Brandon, Riley B. and Steven continued to face the vote, in which Brandon and Riley B. were both evicted. After, it was revealed that Cory had left the house, and was replaced by Jacob.

Week 4: Thank the Lawd[edit | edit source]

Week 4
Beginning August 9
Unknown.png Unknown.png Unknown.png Unknown.png

There was no House Captain voting on Day 6, meaning that all housemates (excluding intruder Jacob) were eligible to face the public vote.

Twists[edit | edit source]

  • The Power of Three: On Day 1, all thirteen housemates faced the public vote, where three of which would each win three "powers" – Captaincy, Immunity and Responsibility.
  • Double Week: On Day 4, it was revealed that Cysco was to nominate two people, instead of one, whilst the four housemates with the most nominations would also face eviction – this meant that six housemates would face a double eviction, rather than the usual three facing a normal eviction.

Voting history[edit | edit source]

Each week, housemates nominate two others to face eviction. This has been a common concept of the Big Brother series since its inception. However, unlike several versions of the show with this format, housemates have the ability to discuss nominations and thus have higher control of the output of the votes. The housemates nominate in the Diary Room in sworn secrecy to disallow the influence of others' votes. Twists are often able to affect the basis of the game. Twists are iconic to the Ashley's Bigg Boss series.

  • ^Note 1 : The public voted for the first House Captain (Melissa), along with who received immunity (JB).
  • ^Note 2 :      On Day 1, JoJo was award the "Power of Responsibility" by public vote; this twist forced her to make a drastic decision that could change the outcome of the game. Out of three options, she chose the third "mystery" option; nominations were cancelled, and JoJo had to nominate three other housemates excluding Melissa and JB to automatically face eviction. She chose Cole, Cory and Nels.
  • ^Note 3 : Brandon failed to vote for a House Captain that week, and thus received his first strike and was banned from nominations. Although he could not nominate, he could still be nominated by his piers.
  • ^Note 4 : Week 3 was "Double Week". Cysco nominated both JB and Riley B. for eviction, whilst the housemates nominated Bobby, Brandon, JoJo, Riley C. and Steven. These seven housemates faced a Double Eviction.
  • ^Note 5 : Prior to the above eviction, Bobby, JB, JoJo and Riley C. received the most votes, and were thus saved from eviction.
